Rest and Recuperation

Hola!  I'm sitting in my favorite chair at my dad's house. It's one of those that has a button controller that will go from reclining to standing up. It's kind of fun and very comfortable. We're just relaxing. It's great after the last few days of wedding celebrations. Madeline is happily married now and we stopped to visit my dad before we head back to Nampa tomorrow. It's warm here. At least it is for Sutherlin. And the hills are brown (gold) like California. I guess the drought is here too. Usually it is green.
My dad is doing very well and is really glad we are here. It's so good to be here.   I wish we lived closer.
Well I am going to have to write more when I get home. Hope all is well wherever you are in cyberspace tonight!  Adios!  Melody

Hola!  We're in Seattle today. We've spent most of the day in the temple. It's a beautiful temple...bigger than I imagined. My granddaughter Madeline went for the first time today. It was so nice. Tomorrow is her wedding in the morning then the rest of the day will be celebrations. It's so beautiful here. I love how green it is. But there's a heat wave here...all the way to 81!
Anyway life is good. Hope it's good in cyberspace too!  HAVVVGW!!!!

It's late and I am headed for bed.  But first I wanted to share a little from the art class I am taking.  I am thrilled with it!  I have learned tons.  We are learning to paint the way that the old masters painted.  It's kind of fun.  I am doing a copy of a Jan Van Eyck painting...."The man in the red turban."  Here is my progress today.
The beginning of today

End of today

Anyway it is fun.  It is kind of like being in a museum.  There are paintings that others are copying from the old masters...even Rembrandt.
So I am hoping all is well out in cyberspace.  I am sooo tired!  Class goes from 9 to 7.  It's a long day!!!  So Nighty night!  Melody

Classical Training

Things have been rather busy around here.  And it seems it will continue for a while.  Last week I worked at the shop, shopped for my class that starts today, entertained grandchildren, put up fruit, etc.  Then Friday night was our ward camp out.  Luckily it is by our favorite motel in Cascade...The Ashley we didn't have to stay in a tent, or pull up our trailer over the mountains.  We had to hurry back for things we still had to take care of here, but it was a lovely, short getaway.
This morning I begin my art class on classical technique.  It looks promising.  I went over to take my things last night and the work that was out from other artists who have taken this class before was beautiful.  I am excited to go this morning.  Although a little too excited.  I woke up at 5 and couldn't fall back asleep!  But it should be an opportunity to learn some of the things I have wanted to learn for a while.
Then we have my granddaughter's wedding at the end of the Seattle.  So we will be taking one more trip!  I am looking forward to her wedding in the Bellevue temple.  But I am not looking forward to driving.  I am glad we have our new Camry.  It should help to make things more pleasant.
Anyway, that's the news from Lake Lowell. (Not Lake Woebegone)  Hope all is well and happy in your neck of the woods.  HAVVVVVVVVVGW!!!!!  Melody

Good day!  I'm sitting at Les Schwabb waiting to get my tires balanced this morning. I hope it doesn't take too long. We got a new to us Camry yesterday. It's a 2014. It's pretty nice but it makes a weird tire sound. I hope it only needs balancing.
Then I think Liz and her kids will be over. My neighbor has cherries he is giving away and snow peas. And free produce is always great!
So tonight is the real night for us to talk in Relief Society. I'm trying to not be nervous. I feel more prepared than last week!  I'll be glad when it's over though. I've never been much of a great speaker. That's Mel!
Anyway not much is happening here. Life keeps speeding by!  Have a great day!!!!  Melody

Looking Forward!

Guten Tag!  And a peaceful Sabbath!!!  I have enjoyed this lovely day.  It is nice to have a day that is not centered on work and business.  Church was so good.  I love to see the good people in our ward.  I feel close to so many good people.  I like that.
One of my artist friends came up to me today and asked if I was going to take a class that is coming up next week.  It is a class I have wanted to take for a couple of years now, but it hasn't worked out with my time schedule.  The artist who comes is from out of town...I think he lives in Florida.  He is 80 I think, so getting on in years.  But I think he is one of those of the generation of my parents.   And he teaches the classical methods of the master painters.  So I am excited to go.  It starts on the 22nd.  Unfortunately I will miss the last two classes.  He does 5 classes in a week.  And we are leaving to go to my granddaughter, Madeline's, wedding.  But I can take three classes, so I think it may be enough for now.  He teaches what sounds like the method that Liz Lemon Swindle paints.  I am excited to learn.  It maybe that I know some of it.  I had a teacher at BSU that taught imprimatura methods.  But I think this goes a bit further.  Anyway, I am excited.  I am supposed to pick a master painting that I love and copy it onto a gessoed board.  Then he will lecture and demonstrate on his painting, then help us with ours.  At least that is what I was told.  We shall see.  It will keep me motivated to paint I think.
In other news....there isn't much I guess.  Just the same things happening, meals, laundry and dishes.  I never seem to have the energy for much else.  Although I did have grandkids over a few times last week.  We still haven't been able to catch that movie...The Cokeville Miracle.  It plays at kind of weird times, and it is only at one theater that is about 45 minutes from here.  We had planned to see it Saturday but we had some unexpected things come up...mostly Mel had to help a lady he home teaches.  Her air conditioner fell out of the window and so he helped her prop it up more securely.  I think how hard it must be for women alone, on a small budget, to get help with hard things.  I was glad he could help.  But we also had a wedding reception to attend for his niece's son, and so it just didn't work.  I am hoping we can go next week if it is still playing here.
I have been a little frustrated lately with how much there is to do and my inability to get it all done.  And being a woman is limiting.  I would really like to build a small enclosure for the dogs, at least until Buddy stops chewing everything in sight, but I don't have the strength or the skill set.  Mel has both, but less time than me.  So...I may hire someone else.  But that makes it cost money that I don't really want to spend.  Sigh and double sigh. Oh well, not a huge problem.  I should just take Buddy with me everywhere.  But the bad thing about that is that he might chew up the inside of the car...or the shop.  He will grow bigger, and his baby teeth will all be replaced and he will stop chewing....I patience is probably the key.  He is still the most lovey dog I have ever owned.  He is just a sweetheart!
Well, I guess I will end this long and rather boring post.  I hope all is happy and bright in cyberspace. Take care!!!  Have a wonderful rest of today....or whatever day it is when you read this.  Melody

A Senior Moment

Hola!  I think today is a good day to share a senior moment.  You know how I said Mel and I were supposed to talk at Relief Society Tuesday night?  Well, we got ready and rushed over...we are so often trying to get places on time....and as we approached the church we could only see four or five cars parked outside.  I said to Mel that it looked like a poor turnout for Relief Society!  So we parked and went in.  We went to the Relief Society room and there were a few sisters there...from another ward.  So we wandered around the church and could find no one else.  At this point I called our Relief Society president.  I figured we must have gotten the wrong location.  I said, "Terry, where are you meeting?  We must have gotten the wrong location."  She said, "Huh?  I'm not sure what you mean."  So I handed the phone to Mel.  He was the one who had talked to her previously about this after all.  He explained that Sis. McKnight had asked us to speak for Relief Society tonight and we couldn't find the location.  Our R.S. president laughed.  "It's not until next week!"  Boy, did we feel silly.  I guess I had missed Relief Society on Sunday and the announcements about when the next weekly meeting was, because I subbed a class of 8 year olds, and Mel just assumed it would be the soonest Tuesday.  So we decided to make lemonade out of our semi-lemony situation and went to the local frozen yogurt shop and had a nice treat.  But we laughed a lot.  How bad is it going to get?
Yesterday was book club.  We had a meeting at a local restaurant for breakfast.  Our president asked if someone else could please be president for a while since she had been for the last two years.  I guess it is not a position anyone is really seeking.  So after no one else spoke up, I did.  So everyone was thanking me....especially our current president.  And I told them I thought I had better take a turn while I still had reasonable health.  A friend of mine, who is a few years older said, "Yes, it just gets worse!"  Her husband is older than she is and has to use a walker and wheel chair...a former ski patrol person.  I guess that old age thing is popping up for us all in that group.  I told them about our speaking engagement that isn't until next week and they all laughed...and then had their own stories of things they had forgotten.  At least we are not alone!
Yesterday I picked up my granddaughter Ellen to come over and help me pull weeds.  She is trying to earn money for camp.  She is a delight!  We worked together for about an hour until the heat and sore muscles got to us.  I guess I am not much of a slave driver.  After we cooled off and had a break we went and picked up pizza....and got a frozen yogurt cuz it is right next to the pizza place:)  Then we came home and looked at old photos of her on my computer.  Mel finally arrived home and we ate and had a great evening.  Mel played trivia crack with Ellen and then chess, while I vegged for a bit.  I guess that hour of weeding got my knees pretty good because I have an extra sore knee now.  Oh well.
Mel has gone to work and Ellen is still sleeping.  I am not sure what we will do today.  It is hotter than yesterday already, so weeding may be out of the question.  I really want to see the new movie...The Cokeville Miracle....and it is only playing in Boise.  So we shall see.
Anyway, I hope all is well in cyberspace!  HAVVVVVVVVVVGW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Melody

Enjoying the Sunshine

Good day!  I am sitting at the dentist's office...waiting for Mel. This was my last appointment for 6 months...a short one. It's Mel's first...I think a long one to evaluate and clean his teeth. So I have a little time to sit and catch my breath.
It has turned hot here-record breaking temperatures!  Yesterday was 97 and today may reach 100. It doesn't usually get so hot until July or August. I like it as long as I have a cool place to go if I get too warm. I am spoiled!
I am a little anxious today. Mel and I are supposed to talk in Relief Society tonight. It is a good topic...turning lemons into lemonade. I just get nervous talking in front of people. But I guess it will soon be over. Time seems to be passing so quickly!
We're also supposed to speak at the Women's prison in August I think. We had to fill out papers to get clearance to visit. I'm not sure why they have me speaking with Mel all of a sudden. But it is all good.
I am hoping to start painting later today. I found a palette keeper in Oklahoma that should help to keep me painting more consistently. I have one for acrylic paints by the same company. So I have great hopes that this one for oils will work well. It would be great not to have to remix colors every time I have time to paint!
This office is a nice place to sit. It backs up to a creek and there are ducks and birds and butterflies and even dragonflies!
So I hope your day goes well out in cyberspace. Take care and HAVVVGW!!!

Friday Night Again so Soon!

Hola!  It's been a long and busy was yesterday.  But I am home now with Taylor here.  Mel had to return to work to fix a problem with a mold.  He's been working hard to catch up with everything at work.  He is almost caught up, but I am not sure he is ever all the way caught up.  It is hard to be the one in charge!
I started the day with a visiting teaching visit.  The lady we visited is quite old, and her daughter that lives with her and cares for her had a heart attack this last weekend.  It is lucky she made it.  She said she had 99% blockage in her artery!  The doctor said it was very close.  I think now her challenge will be to get enough rest.  Her daughters came to help, so for now things are OK.  But Jodell and I thought we should go by and see what we could do to help.  I think she mostly just needed a good visit.  She has been through a lot!
After visiting with her I met my littlest sister for lunch.  We also had a good visit.  I am lucky to have both of my sisters within driving distance.  I think they help to keep me balanced.  It is so easy to get overwhelmed with all that goes on in our lives.  We need each other for sure.
After lunch I went and got Taylor.  He wanted to come and spend the night, and his mom thought it might be nice to have a break.  So we have been pal-ing around all afternoon and evening.  We went to Costco for a few things and he loved the free samples!  Then we went to the pet store for a few more things.  And then we went to Freddy's, which is a milkshake/ice cream store that opened here a few months ago.  Taylor wanted a shake....chocolate with caramel.  We got one for Mel and dropped it by.  Then we came home and I gave Taylor a haircut!  It looks good.  Then we went to a stake activity....a Luau...with Mel too.  It was great.  It reminded me of the luaus we used to have in San Lorenzo.  We had a large Polynesian population that loved to put on a show.  There are not so many Polynesians here in this stake, but it was fun.  Taylor really liked the "Haka"!  Me too!!!
Well, I guess that is it for today.  I am so glad for my sweet grandson Taylor.  We agree that we have a special bond.  He told me today he likes to be "spoiled and loved" by his grandma.  He is such a joy in my life.  I am grateful for him!  And for all of my grandchildren.  I wish we could all live in a hacienda together.  I think it would be great!!!!
So I hope all is happy and bright out in cyberspace!   Take care and remember I am pulling for you!!! Keep smiling and I will do the same.  Good night!  Melody

Home Again!

Good evening!  We are home and it does feel good!  We had an interesting experience in Denver. We boarded the plane and waited...and waited. The engines seemed to be running, but then they weren't. The captain spoke to us over the loud speaker and said that one of the engines wouldn't start!  So they called in a mechanic to look it over. They decided it was a broken starter. So we sat a while longer until they decided to have us de board. While they were deciding what to do next we met a young woman who was traveling with her baby. All of this boarding and un boarding was especially hard for her. So we helped out a little so she had someone to help with bags and a tired and hungry baby. It made it not so hard for us to pass the time. Here's a photo of him
Yep he's a cutie. We finally all made it to Boise. But when we went to get our car, it would not start!  The battery had died!  So we called our sweet son in law and he came and rescued us by jumping the car. So it was a long morning. We had to go to work before we went home to do the payroll and figure out a few problems. It felt very good to finally get home!
Now Mel is at a high counsel meeting. I hope it doesn't go too late!  We were up at 3 this morning to get to the airport on time. Yes, i shouldn't complain!  We came a lot of miles in a very short time. It sure beats a covered wagon or a handcart!
Anywho, it feels wonderful to be home. There's no place like it!!!  I hope all is happy and well in cyberspace!  Have a great night!!!  Melody

Last Day in OK

Hola!  The post I've been writing for the last little while just disappeared. That's a little discouraging as I write slowly with one finger. So I will just send happy greetings for now. We will be back home tomorrow and I can write with a keyboard   That will be nice. Even though we've had a great time, I am definitely ready to be back home. We visited the art museum here today. There was glass work by Chulilly. It was amazing. We also went to the Memorial downtown. It felt sad. I am currently watching an episode of FD Roosevelt's life. It is fascinating to me.
I like learning about history this way.
So I hope all is well. Take care. Me
